CARTS Adds Bus Stop in Downtown Georgetown
Press release from communications director: Keith Hutchinson
Bus service is now available from a downtown Georgetown bus stop with 10 daily departures each weekday to Austin, Round Rock, or Taylor. Bus service by the Capital Area Rural Transportation System started on Monday at a stop one block from the Courthouse Square.
The new downtown stop at Ninth and Main streets next to Grace Heritage Center is the second CARTS bus stop in Georgetown. CARTS opened a bus station at 3620 S. Austin Avenue in 2010.
CARTS bus service from the downtown stop at Ninth and Main streets will serve three routes.
CARTS Metro Connector
The CARTS Metro Connector will depart downtown Georgetown at 6:20 a.m. and arrive at Congress Avenue and 11th Street (State Capitol stop) in Austin at 7:22 a.m. The afternoon return trip leaves from the State Capitol at 4:42 p.m. and arrives at the downtown Georgetown stop at 5:50 p.m.
Interurban Coach I-35 Yellow Route
The Interurban Coach I-35 Yellow Route will depart downtown Georgetown four times each day with stops at the Georgetown S. Austin CARTS station, Round Rock Station, Capital Metro Tech Ridge Station, Austin Greyhound Station, Austin CARTS station, Kyle, and the San Marcos CARTS station.
Bus fares are $2 for a one-way fare in one county or a Metro Connector route or $4 for one-way trips anywhere in the CARTS district. An all-day pass is $6. Seniors 65 or older or persons with disabilities ride for half-fares. Riders should have exact change. Multi-Ride books are available in $20 and $40 denominations.
Riders using the downtown Georgetown stop can park at the free public parking lot across the street at Ninth and Main streets. Another option is bike-and-ride since CARTS buses are equipped with easy-to-use front-mounted bike racks.
Connections to Capitol Metro buses can be made at the Tech Ridge Station or at several stops in Austin. For Capital Metro schedules go to CapMetro.org or call (512) 474-1200.
CARTS provides rural transit service in a nine-county region including non-urbanized areas of Williamson County and Georgetown.
For more information and detailed schedules, go to RideCARTS.com or call (512) 478-7433.
