Musings
Date: Jul 29, 2010

Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~

We had a great DGA meeting last week.  There was a lot of positive energy and discussion about how to work with the City in seeing that the Master Plan for downtown gets implemented sooner rather than later.  There is much happening in the background, and a lot of encouraging things on the horizon, not the least of which is the upcoming vote on the Winery Initiative.  We encourage you to attend next month as we continue with the discussion and plans.

A reminder that Friday Nights Melodies have taken on a new format… “Georgetown Jams!”  They have a facebook page by that name and are seeking musicians who want to come to the Square on Friday nights and jam from 6-8PM.  Kenz Guitars is helping to sponsor this new twist to the outdoor music on Fridays.  If you know of musicians who wish to participate, they can send an email to georgetownjams@yahoo.com for information and to sign up to participate.

The Palace Theatre announced their newest production, “ The Wedding Singer” opening on Friday, August 6, for a 5-weekend run ~ August 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, 27-29, and September 3-5, 2010.  Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2:00 p.m.  Purchase tickets and select seating on-line at www.thegeorgetownpalace.org or by calling (512) 869-7469 or (512) 869-5081.  Visa and Master Card are accepted.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Georgetown Fire Dept. is getting behind this in a big way!  There is a “Pink Heals” tour stop on the Square planned for Wednesday, 10/13. The event and T-shirt sales are sponsored by the Georgetown Fire Department and the Georgetown Association of Professional Firefighters. The national tour featuring pink fire trucks and firefighters aims to raise money and awareness for women affected by cancer. Other fire departments from Central Texas are participating in the Georgetown Pink Heals Tour stop. For more information about the Pink Heals Tour stop in Georgetown, including sponsorship information, contact the Georgetown Fire Department administration non-emergency number at (512) 930-3473 or fire@georgetown.org

T-shirts for the 2010 Pink Heals Tour stop in Georgetown are now on sale at the Visitor Information Center, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Fire Administration, and all City fire stations. The T-shirts are $15 each and proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas.
