What We Do

Plan events year-round promoting customer traffic in the downtown area and helping generate buzz and business for members
• Provide a booth free of charge at Market Days to all business members with shops in the downtown area
• Serve as an advocate for issues that affect your interest as a property owner, business owner or resident
• Provide a website which lists all member businesses, as well as a link to their respective websites
• Provide advertising and promotional opportunities at great rates
• Keep you current on issues affecting downtown businesses and the community with weekly email
   communications
• Provide members with an on-site staff who are available during business hours to serve you

DGA Accomplishments In 2009

Enhanced the Christmas season event list including a street dance for the Lighting of the Square and an expanded Christmas Stroll attracting an estimated 30,000 visitor’s downtown
Successful Taste of Georgetown held downtown for the second year inside the historic Williamson County Courthouse showcasing Georgetown restaurants, and Texas wineries
Nine Market Day events attracting 80-100 vendors, bringing fun, energy and an estimated 1000 visitors to the square each month
Expanded First Fridays with street dances promoting a fun and different way for residents to visit downtown in the evening hours
Initiated Music on the Square on Friday Nights, highlighting local talent and offering a family friendly event to give a sense of something happening downtown each weekend
Monthly open forum meetings encouraging any interested persons to attend, discuss issues related to downtown and announce opportunities of interest to downtown merchants
Several Williamson County Sun ads and two page spread, cooperative ads in the Chamber Directory and Community Impact newspaper promoting downtown businesses, events and branding The Georgetown Square as a destination.
Sponsored organizationally the Winery Initiative designed to make the downtown alcohol sales rules consistent with the rules in other parts of Georgetown in order to allow easier restaurant and winery establishment in support of economic development of the area in and around the square.
Launched a new membership category “Friends of the Square” designed to provide non-business owner individuals a fun way to connect with the square merchants and “take ownership” in the square.
Multiple hours networking with community leaders and downtown organizations on issues important to both merchants and property owners.
Hosted two City Wide Garage sale events.


DGA Plans for 2010…

Major effort to expand Christmas 2010 exposure, fun and events.
Expanded monthly co-op advertising and marketing campaign including a focus on promoting businesses beyond the courthouse square.
Continue entertainment on The Square, specifically a goal of something happening on The Square every Friday night April through September.
Continue and expand membership in “Friends of the Square” initiative which is a $25 tax deductible donation for members all over the community. A membership card offers member-only discounts and perks from participating merchants and restaurants. Continue and expand “Friendly Hours” which helps to showcase merchants to this group each month.
Revamped website and email communication strategy will build a central email distribution list to send marketing and promotional messages to visitors and customers who sign up for the service. Website launched in early January.
In cooperation with Main Street Program, introduce “Merchants Educational Series” designed to bring educational opportunities for downtown merchants to improve the quality and consistency of what they do all rooted in our “Texas Friendly” way of doing business, including cross-promoting of our downtown businesses.
Expand cross-organization & membership communication.
