Monday Musings
Date: Feb 08, 2010

Happy Monday, DGA!

Last week was our launch of our First Friday events for 2010.  There was a wonderful crowd around downtown, and such a party atmosphere in the air.  We sent out a note to the merchants who were open to get feedback on the evening.  A couple have already responded that it was a great event, and the Museum (who does a count for events) said it was a record breaker for them.  We offer congratulations to the winners of our prize baskets: Gail Davis, Bob Felix, Carolyn Murdock and Warren Larson (all of Georgetown), and Paula Conch (Florence).  We are looking at something fun to promote the First Friday in March, so if you have any ideas, we welcome input!

This Friday, 2/12 is the Swirl event on the Square.  The event is sponsored by the Main Street program and one they hope to make an annual event.  Tickets are going well, and are available at the Visitor Center, Georgetown Winery, and Williamson Museum among others.  For more information, check the website: www.swirl.georgetown.org

The Palace Theatre sent out a press release about their new production opening on 2/19 for a four week run: Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.”  This is a fun play about love and contains incredible music.  Check out their website for a synopsis of the play and ticket information: www.thegeorgetownpalace.org.

A reminder about a great Valentine gift, if you have put it off until the last minute:  The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has announced a reduced pet adoption campaign from Tuesday, February 9, through Valentine's Day, Sunday, February 14.  The Adopt Your Forever Friend program will offer reduced pet adoption fees of only $50. A special Valentine Party will be held on Saturday, February 13, noon to 4 p.m., with pet vendors and treats for all attendees.

Another unusual idea for your favorite valentine:  Check out this item from the Georgetown Winery: Chocolate dipped wine bottles!  Dan explains: “The bottle is covered with a shrink wrap - then dipped in chocolate - then covered with more shrink wrap to protect the chocolate - ready to drink - just pull the shrink wrap and the chocolate falls off - you are ready to drink your wine and enjoy your chocolate.”  Available by pre-order only: call or come by the winery before Feb 11th ~ 512-869-8600

We had a fun notice from Janet at ScentChips and More of Georgetown.  They are supporting MDA at an event on March 25th.  Janet is being “arrested” at noon that day and will need to raise bail so she can get out of jail!  If you are by her shop, she is collecting her bail early in the hopes they will go easy on her.  We love to promote any of our members that are supporting such great organizations as the MDA.

We are gearing up for the launch of our 2nd Saturday Market Days on 3/13.  This year, the March market is “going green.”  Many of our vendors will feature “green specials” and will be sporting a green ribbon so visitors can spot them.  We want to offer green ribbons to any downtown merchants who wish to offer a special for the day.  Just let us know, even that day, and we will give you a ribbon to put at the entrance to your shop.

See you around downtown!
