Monday's Musings Archives Monday Musings
Happy Monday, DGA & Friends of the Square~
One final reminder that our kick-off meeting for 2010 is THIS week!
Please note the new location:
Thursday, January 28th
8:30-10:00AM
Amante’s Restaurant, 7th & Main Street
We have lots of new things to bring to your attention and hope you will make plans to join us.
Remember that we kick-off of the 2010 First Friday events on Feb. 5th with our annual “Death by Chocolate.” This is a fun event, and we hope you will make plans to visit downtown that evening! Shops are open 6-8 PM, and our chocolate scavenger hunt cards will be available all around the Square. Guests will fill these out as they visit the shops to find the answers. The entries will then be turned in at the Visitor Center to be eligible for several drawings. It should be a great evening, so we hope you will join us!
The Palace Theatre sent out a casting call for their spring production of “Harvey.” They are holding auditions starting January 30th. Check their website for information on the characters, synopsis and audition information: http://www.georgetownpalace.com/showevents.php?showType=Auditions
Also, on a personal note, we attended the current production “Nunsense II” on Sunday. What a fun production! If you have not seen this one, you still have two weekends left to get tickets. Expect to leave smiling! There is singing, dancing, music (wait until you see the live musicians!), audience participation and a lot of one-liners that will keep you laughing. It is a fun evening or afternoon out. And if you missed the original “Nunsense” production, never fear. You are brought up to date at the beginning of the production, so you can follow the story line. Thoroughly enjoyable!
We held our 2010 DGA Board planning session last week, and boy do we have some great plans for this year. We will be sharing these over the next few months, and believe we are poised to make an even greater impact on our members as how you do business, as well as raising an even greater awareness of the jewel that is downtown Georgetown. One thing we are looking for is someone to do some marketing for us for a few of our programs. We have a great team in place for our events, but need some additional help in marketing other areas. If you know someone who has a passion for Georgetown and would have a few hours a week to devote to this, we would love the chance to chat with him/her.
The Williamson County Sun sent us a reminder of a Valentines special ad that they have available currently: “This is such a great deal for a very low price. You will receive two 2x3 (3.63x3) full color ads and two black and white ads, for a total of $178.00. The deadline to reserve ad space is Wednesday 1/27. For information contact: Vanessa Irving, Sales (512) 930-4824” Click here for more information.
Swirl around the Square from 6- 9 p.m. on Friday, February 12th!
Our Georgetown Main Street Program is co-sponsoring the Georgetown Swirl, a new event they plan to hold annually around downtown. The tagline for the Swirl is “Shop, Savor and Sip…” and we believe this event will introduce new visitors to Georgetown. Tickets are limited and NOW AVAILABLE at the Visitor Center, Georgetown Winery and other locations in downtown. Check out the Main Street website for information: www.Swirl.Georgetown.org. Thank you to all our shop owners around downtown who are sponsoring retail locations for this event, and to our restaurants who have agreed to be part of this inaugural event. This is a great support to the Main Street and the façade grant fund!
See you around downtown!
Trisha
