Greetings, DGA~

Due to the MLK holiday, here is your Musings on Tuesday.

This is your second reminder that our kick-off meeting for 2010 is next week!
Please note the new location:
Thursday, January 28th
8:30-10:00AM
Amante’s Restaurant, 7th & Main Street
We have lots of new things to bring to your attention and hope you will make plans to join us.
Swirl around the Square from 6- 9 p.m. on Friday, February 12th!
Our Georgetown Main Street Program is helping to sponsor the Georgetown Swirl, a new event they hope to hold annually around downtown. This ticketed event will showcase a few of our sponsor retailers who are hosting a local restaurant and a Texas winery in their shop. The tagline for the Swirl is “Shop, Savor and Sip…” and we believe this event will introduce new visitors to Georgetown. Tickets are limited and available at the Visitor Center, Georgetown Winery and other locations in downtown. Check out the Main Street website for information:  www.mainstreetgeorgetown.com.

From Novitá Spa, and owner/founder Megan DiMartino~
Watch for the grand opening in early February of the beautiful newly expanded facilities. I hope everyone will stop in for a tour and to experience the culmination a dream I have had for years ~ a world class spa experience here on the Georgetown Square!

We had an email reminder from the Chamber of Commerce about their upcoming Bridal Show at the Chamber on Sat., February 27th, 12-5pm. This will feature some of Georgetown’s best sources for brides. There is no charge for attendees, so if you are planning a wedding or know a bride who is, you will want to take note of this event.

First Annual San Gabriel Wine Trail

Sat., January 23rd from 11-4
Enjoy visiting two wineries and two wine tasting bars: Inwood Estates Vineyard, The Vineyard at Florence, Georgetown Winery, and Silver & Stone Restaurant and Wine Bar. Your ticket includes three tastings at each location, a souvenir wine glass, hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of premium Texas wine to take home. The price $35/person and tickets must be purchased in advance. Only 200 tickets will be sold for this trail and are available at Georgetown Winery.

We are sure you have heard the “going green news” from SouthwesternThis is a major commitment, and one that will be held up as an example to colleges and universities across the country. Congratulations to President Schrum and the University for taking this monumental step and blazing a trail for others to follow.
“SOUTHWESTERN SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH CITY OF GEORGETOWN TO RECEIVE 100 PERCENT OF ITS ENERGY FROM WIND POWER” Southwestern has signed an agreement with the City of Georgetown that will enable it to meet all its electric needs for the next 18 years from wind power.President Schrum noted that Southwestern students were the ones who initiated the conversation with city officials, and after that, both the city and the university worked to bring the idea to reality.
Also, there are an abundance of events that take place on the Southwestern campus. Many are free to the public, for instance: TENOR SCOT CAMERON TO SING EARLY MUSIC JAN. 21 Tenor Scot Cameron and pianist David Utterback will give a performance of early music on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Alma Thomas Theater.   The program will feature pieces from Bach’s “Magnificat,” Handel’s “Judas Maccaebeus,” and Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and “Stabat Mater.” It is free and open to the public.
You may want to check their website from time to time. I think you will be amazed at the depth and scope of the offerings to the public. What a treasure right here in our back yard! http://www.southwestern.edu/calendar/sucalendar/main.php

See you around downtown!
