Date: Jul 12, 2010

Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~

This is your first reminder that our July DGA membership meeting will be on Thursday, July 22 ~ 8:30AM-10:00AM at Silver & Stone Restaurant.  We hope you will make plans to join us!

Our July Market Days and “Operation Brave Hearts” was a great event last Saturday.  We had participation of some branches of the armed forces, police, fire, sheriff’s departments as well as many other groups.  There was a special tribute to some of our county’s oldest vets and we recognized Bill Gottsman as the oldest veteran in attendance (92).  All the 6 veterans who attended were very pleased at the recognition, and we were humbled to think of the service they had given our country.

Remember that the Georgetown Restaurant Assn. is sponsoring a Restaurant Week to benefit the Literacy Council. The event kicks off at the Landmark Tavern on July 21 and run for July 22 through 31.  There will be special menus at participating local restaurants, and for each meal ordered from those menus, a donation will be made to the Literacy Council.  More details to come on this.  It is an event this new organization hopes to make an annual, signature one for Georgetown.

Please have your handout and/or coupons to us by July 23rd for the packets we will be handing out at Southwestern University’s new student/parent orientation in mid-August.  We need to fill 500 bags for this effort.  It is a great way to promote your business to the new students.  Let us know if you have any questions about this and if you wish to be part of the information bags.

J. Paul Aubin Realty has been contacted about a great opportunity!  HGTV wants to come to Georgetown to film for their “first time home buyers” series.  Aubin Realty is seeking first time home buyers who want to be considered for this filing.  They will kick off the search for first time home buyers at First Friday on August 6 by hosting a pre-qualification in their offices.  How fun to think that a couple from Georgetown will be on this show!

On a walk-around:

Did you know that…?
…Created for You Catering has a full menu of “grab-n-go” items inside Cianfrani’s?  And Chef RC’s cinnamon buns are to die for!
…Golf on the Square can help you with anything to improve your game?  Their staff is ready to help answer all your golf questions.
…Rough & Ready Antiques is open 7 days a week?  They have a constantly changing inventory of the unique.  Have you checked them out lately?
…Beauty Escape has a chiropractor on staff that can help with those back problems?  They also have clothing and jewelry in addition to salon services.
…Kenz Guitars not only sells guitars and accessories, but also gives lessons?  That would make a great gift to an aspiring young artist.

Welcome to new members, Kevin and Debbe Tanner, owners of Collector’s Market on University Ave.  We are thrilled to have you as part of DGA!

We had a note from Rob Hipp at Click Computers“You are invited to join the team as we celebrate the recent expansion of Click Computers to Round Rock with a grand opening ribbon cutting. It will take place Thursday, July 29, 2010 at our Round Rock location (1009 S Mays St #A, 78664) at 11:30AM.  July marks the 6th anniversary of Click Computers. My business would not be here if it wasn't for the friends and clients we have. Click is driven because of you. I sincerely value and appreciate the support!”  Congratulations to Rob and team!

Sandy Dronet at SHE Etc. wanted us to let you know about a special she is running.  You can now take $20.00 off both full facials and massages on Tuesdays – Thursdays, not valid with gift certificates.  Sounds like the time is perfect for a little pampering!

Congratulations to Bill Edmiston/State Farm Insurance!  He celebrated 40 years downtown on July 1st.  We love to highlight those businesses and shops that have been around for years, supporting all we do downtown.

On that same note, The Escape sent out postcards to their mailing list last week and mentioned that they were celebrating 14 years in business.  Congratulations to Judy and Len Lester!  Well done!!!

See you around downtown~
