Monday's Musings Archives Musings
Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~
This week is our long anticipated July Market Days and “Operation Brave Hearts!” We have confirmed the participation of branches of the armed forces, police, fire, sheriff’s departments as well as many other groups. There will be a special salute to the oldest veterans in our community during the day. We hope you will make it a point to stop by the Square, especially to say thanks to our brave hearts on Saturday, July10th 9AM-4PM!
The Georgetown Restaurant Assn. is sponsoring a Restaurant Week to benefit the Literacy Council. This is a group that helps teach English as a second language among other services. The event will kick off at the Landmark Tavern on July 21 and run for July 22 through 31. There will be special menus at participating local restaurants, and for each meal ordered from those menus, a donation will be made to the Literacy Council. The GRA is a newly formed group that DGA has been supporting with a booth space at Market Days. Watch for more information on this inaugural event!
Congratulations to DIRECTOR Mickie Ross! The Williamson Museum announced her appointment last week, and we wish to add our support and best wishes. She was chosen from a field of 40+ applicants from all around the country. We know she will do an incredible job! And don’t forget about the Museum's Summer History Explorers’ Camp. This year’s theme is “Those Fabulous Fifties” and will include the music, dances, movies, and TV shows of the period. Two camp sessions, which run Monday through Friday, are available: July 19 through 23 or July 26 through 30. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are open to students in grades 3 through 6. Fees include lunch, snacks and all materials for $15 per day or $75 per week, with a 20% discount for Museum members. To sign up, contact the museum at 512-943-3758 or mross@williamsonmuseum.org.
We are gathering information to hand out at our table at Southwestern University’s new student/parent orientation in mid-August. Remember that we are trying to fill 500 bags for this effort. It is a great way to promote your business to the new students. If you wish to be part of this welcome bag, please be sure to get your brochure, coupons or other information to the DGA office by July 16. Let us know if you have any questions about this and if you wish to be part of the information bags.
On a walk-around:
Did you know that…?
…Novitá Spa has some really great specials for summer? Check them out. You deserve some “Me Time”! And watch for Megan in their commercial on HGTV.
…Franklin Jewelers has Chamilia charms, bracelets and necklaces? These are a great gift idea, as you can start with a bracelet or necklace and one charm. Then you can add to it for many occasions to come.
…Down the Alley Bistro has great soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch? And be sure to visit on First Friday to hear live music in a cozy atmosphere.
…Georgetown Winery has live music every Friday and Saturday night? The winery has become a favorite gathering spot downtown and is open until 8PM.
…Diva offers decorating services? Check out their wonderful décor items in one of the most beautiful shops on the Square!
…SHE, Etc. has a private “couple’s cottage” that takes pampering to whole new level for a special occasion? This could be the gift that will get any man a TON of brownie points!
Congratulations to Roger and Cherry Vest at Laurie’s Too Cafe who are celebrating 10 years downtown on July 6th. They invite everyone to drop in Tuesday to help them celebrate!
Wildfire Restaurant sent out an email with a couple of announcements we want to pass along:
…We have a new Late Night Bar Menu available from 10:00pm to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Please join us!
…We will take a break this summer and bring back our schedule of live band music this fall.
See you around downtown~
