Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~

We had a great DGA meeting last week.  There were several things that we committed to spearheading over the next few months:

  1. We will pull together a group to work on a series of “merchants’ tour of downtown.”  This is in response to a comment that a new business to the Square was asked about a shop for a specialty item, and realized they did not know where to send the customer.  This would help each shop owner get familiar with what is actually available here in other shops.  Janet Dixon from ScentChips has agreed to work on this.  Contact her at 512-819-9640 if you would like to help with this.
  2. We will be pulling together a group of various merchants to brainstorm about guidelines for Market Days themes and vendors with an eye to helping control competing vendors who may greatly impact our merchants.
  3. There is a group spearheaded by Cheri at Tribal Impressions, who are brainstorming about new events and promotions to bring to downtown.  If you want to help on this task force, call Cheri at 512-864-2081.

The Georgetown Restaurant Assn. announced that they are sponsoring a Restaurant Week to benefit the Literacy Council.  This is a group that helps teach English as a second language among other services.  The event will kick off at the Landmark Tavern on July 21st and run for a week.  There will be special menus at local restaurants, and for each meal ordered from those menus, a donation will be made to the Literacy Council.

The Williamson County Sun sent us a note about their Summer Coupon Shop Local Special ads.  Attached is a flyer about this.  Contact Vanessa or Debbie at 930-4824 or ads@wilcosun.com.

Have you heard about the Summer History Explorers’ Camp at The Williamson Museum? This year’s theme is “Those Fabulous Fifties” and will include the music, dances, movies, and TV shows of the period. There will be lessons and activities on Civil Rights, the Cold War, cars, and even Elvis! Two camp sessions, which run Monday through Friday, are available: July 19 through 23 or July 26 through 30. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are open to students in grades 3 through 6. Fees include lunch, snacks and all materials for $15 per day or $75 per week, with a 20% discount for Museum members. To sign up, contact Mickie Ross at 512-943-3758 or mross@williamsonmuseum.org.

We are finalizing the details for our July Market Days themed as “Operation Brave Hearts!”  The DGA website has all the information on the various military and community units who will be participating.  We hope you will make it a point to stop by the Square, especially to say thanks to our brave hearts!

It is getting time for us to plan our annual display table at Southwestern University’s new student/parent orientation in mid-August.  This year, they expect about 500 families will be participating in the activities.  In the past, DGA has put together bags of information about downtown merchants to distribute.  Many of you have been very generous and some even include a discount coupon in your information.  If you wish to be part of this welcome bag, please be sure to get your brochure, coupons or other information to the DGA office by July 16th.  This gives us time to assemble the bags and get them to the university for the event.  This year, we are partnering with the Chamber, and they will recruit Ambassadors to man the tables for us.  Let us know if you have any questions about this and if you wish to be part of the information bags.

On a walk-around:

Did you know that…?

Three Legged Willie’s has a new 2-for-1 summer promotion on Tuesdays and Sundays?  They have 4 entrees for both lunch and dinner on this special.  Eric and staff invite you to come and try it out!

Wonderful Things is offering a free bracelet with a $50 purchase of Brighton Charms through 7/11?

Book Pride will give you credit on used books you bring in?  And they will hold the credit for future purchases.

Silver & Stone Restaurant has live music every Friday and Saturday night?  They invite you to their “party on the patio” atop the Tamiro Plaza.

Landmark Tavern is now serving a menu of pub food?  Check out the new items daily from 4PM-midnight.

We had this note from Georgetown WineryWe just returned from the Lone Star International Wine Competition 2010 in Grapevine Texas and captured the Grand Star Award: Lone Star Frost Ice Wine - Best Dessert Wine (2 years in a row!). In addition, we won 1 Gold, 2 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals. Congratulations again, Dan & Becca!  We are so proud of our local winery.

See you around downtown~
