Monday's Musings Archives Musings Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~
This is your reminder of the June DGA meeting this week:
WHEN: Thursday, June 24th ~ 8:30-10:00
WHERE: NEW LOCATION: Silver & Stone restaurant, 501 S. Austin Ave. – 4th floor
We hope we will see you there.
Great news about the successful winery initiative effort! On 6-16-2010, there were 5750 verified signatures on the petitions turned in to the election office for counting. We only needed 4815 signatures on the petitions but we wanted to make sure we were adequately covered in this regard. The course of action now is that they signatures will be counted and verified. Then it will be put on the agenda for the Commissioners Court and authorized to be put on the November ballot, which is merely a formality. We are on our way! Thank you, THANK YOU to all who volunteered to collect signatures. Special thanks to Karin Truxillo and John Marler, co-chairs, who worked many hours to oversee this. GREAT job! We hope you will join us for our special July Market Days themed as “Operation Brave Hearts!” This is shaping up to be a great celebration and a lot of hard work has gone into the planning for this. Get ready to don your red, white and blue and join us for a Market Days like no other on July 10th! The DGA website has all the information on the various military and community units who will be participating. We hope you will make it a point to stop by the Square, especially to say thanks to our brave hearts! We received a note about Williamson County being one of the fastest growing counties in the nation according to Money.com. This is one of the reasons that the Winery Initiative is so important. We are on the cusp of a huge surge in growth. With the ability for our restaurants to serve wine without the prohibitive cost of a full liquor license, we will be better poised to help our downtown grow and encourage traffic to this area. Here is the link to the article: http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2010/real_estate/1006/gallery.fastest_growing_US_counties/9.html The Palace Theatre opened their new production, “The Queen of Bingo” and they are gearing up for their summer workshops series for kids 7-18 years of age. Check out all that is going on at their website: http://www.georgetownpalace.com. We are still looking for participants for our co-op ads for our regular Community Impact ad for July – the deadline is THIS Friday, 6/25. We need 3 more to fill our commitment and keep the great cost we have secured for this. We believe the consistency of these ads has helped keep our downtown top of mind in the community. We also have a single page ad in the "Connected" issue of Community Impact. We have 3 spots left in that issue for $140 each. This is their annual edition that has a shelf life of a year. They keep these on the stands in the visitor centers, libraries and other outlets. The Chamber also sends these in their relocation packets to new residents and companies. Please let us know if you are interested in being part of either of these publications. On a walk-around: Did you know? …that Hollandaze Gourmet has new summer hours? They are now open noon to 4:00pm on Sunday's, Closed Monday's, Tues-Fri 10:00 to 6:00pm. …that His & Hers Treasures is expanding their humidor? Check out the progress with Julie and Bill. …that Hill Country Bookstore features signings by authors on a regular basis? …that Wildfire Restaurant has live music every Saturday night? Sign up to receive their email for menu specials each week. …that Just Kidds & More has the best selection of baby and children’s clothing and gifts in the area? …that Laurie’s Too offers a different lunch special each week?
See you around downtown~
