Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~

Update on the Winery Initiative:  GREAT NEWS!!  We have gone OVER THE TOP with the number of signatures we need!  There will be a ceremonial signing of the last signature at the Sun City Neighborhood Reps meeting at 9:45 am this Wednesday at the Cowan Creek Activities Center.  The signed petitions then go to the County Elections office to be turned in.  This puts it on the ballot in November!  Thank you to all who have helped in this effort.  This will be a huge boost to the economy in downtown and indeed all of Georgetown.  Ya-HOOO!!!

This is your first reminder of the June DGA meeting:
WHEN: Thursday, June 24th ~ 8:30-10:00
WHERE: NEW LOCATION
Silver & Stone restaurant, 501 S. Austin Ave. – 4th floor
We hope we will see you there.

Plan to join us for our special July Market Days themed as “Operation Brave Hearts!”  We have a great group of merchants who have taken the initiative to help make this an over-the-top salute to the men and women who serve our country.  Get ready to don your red, white and blue and join us for a Market Days like no other on July 10th!

The Palace Theatre opens their next production: “The Queen of Bingo” this Friday, June 18.  Ticket prices are $20 General Admission, $18 Seniors (55+), $12 Students (16-22) and Active Military, and $8 Children (15 and younger).  You can access their website for more information:  www.thegeorgetownpalace.org.

City Lights Theatre is helping children in Georgetown with a special Blue Santa promotion for the premier of “Toy Story 3.” Bring a toy to showings of Toy Story 3 on June 18 or 19, and in exchange, get a free 46-ounce popcorn. All toys will be donated to the Georgetown Blue Santa program. Monetary donations to Blue Santa also can be made at the concession counter.  In case you are not aware, Georgetown Blue Santa is a program of the Georgetown Police Department to provide toys to children in Georgetown during the Christmas season. The program assists children from low- and moderate-income families in Georgetown. For information, check their website: www.citylightstheatres.com.

We had a note from Urban Homes and Land.  They proudly invite you to a ribbon-cutting and open house on Thursday, June 24th, 5-7:30 PM located at 204 South IH-35, Suite 201 (Upstairs next to Georgetown Therapy).

As an FYI: The Williamson County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo is June 25 & 26 at the rodeo arena in San Gabriel Park. Check out their site with the details: http://www.georgetownrodeo.com/

On a walk-around:

We are adding a new item in which we will highlight a few of our merchants around downtown.  We would love to include items you sell in your shops that folks may not know you sell.  We will showcase various shops on a regular basis, so if your shop is not listed, rest assured we will mention you in a future edition!  Please help us by sending information you want included over the next few weeks.  This came up when I learned that

Did you know?

…that Cianfrani’s offers cold drinks, Italian sodas in a variety of flavors, as well as Amy’s Ice Cream?

…that Galaxy Cupcakes offers not only a special of the day “Cup-Tails” but also Italian Ices in several flavors?  (Ask them about the “cup-tails.”)

…that The Escape has handmade wooden clocks from owner/craftsman Len Lester?

…that ScentChips has several “Georgetown scents” they have blended that are being used in shops around downtown?

…that Handcrafts Unlimited sells only hand made items from seniors in the area?

…that Dia Thai has a wonderful variety of lunch items?

Happy Birthday from Wonderful Things!  Wednesday, June 16 & Thursday, June 17 ~ 9:30AM - 6:00PM.  You are invited to celebrate, and there will be a special treat for those whose birthday falls between Jan. 1 and June 30.  Drop by for lot of surprises, homemade cupcakes & punch.

Georgetown Winery continues to pull in the awards.  Dan told us that the “KilleenDaily Herald” named them best winery in the Ft. Hood/Killeen area in a recent edition.  Congratulations to the Mareks!  It is great to hear that they are expanding their sphere of influence around central Texas.

See you around downtown~
