Monday's Musings Archives Musings Musings ~ May 11, 2010 Greetings, DGA and Friends of the Square~ Our Street Dance series kicked off last Friday, which was also First Friday. It was a huge success, and we had one of our largest crowds to date! If you missed it, we hope you will make plans to join us next month when we will be featuring a swing band. The Palace Theatre opened their production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last weekend. This is an amazing musical and they expect sold out houses. You will want to be sure to get your tickets early! Get more information at www.thegeorgetownpalace.org or by calling (512) 869-7469 or (512) 869-5081. And did you hear about the art fund raiser benefiting the Palace? Area artists have donated seventy (70) works of art to the Palace Theatre. The donated works are on display at the Framer’s Gallery until May 28, when they will be distributed to Gold and Silver ticket holders. Gold tickets are $100 and Silver tickets cost $25 dollars. Two-thirds of the works will be given to Gold ticket holders. All Gold ticket holders are guaranteed to receive one piece of art. The remaining third of the works will be given to Silver ticket holders. Ticket holders must be present at the Framer’s Gallery on the evening of the 28 to claim their works of art. All works will be framed and valued in excess of $100. Our Market Days last week had the largest number of vendors to date. And did you see the huge tent for the Georgetown Restaurant Association? This is a new group DGA is helping support. They are doing a great job of banding together to get the word out about our incredible and diverse dining options here in Georgetown. Watch for more about this group in future months. While many of our restaurants are jewels we all enjoy, we would love to have the rest of central Texas hear about them! Did you catch the episode about Galaxy Cupcakes on TLC's Best Food Ever program last night (Monday 5/10)? If you did, stop by today, Tuesday and answer their trivia question about the the Galaxy Cupcakes segment to get a special surprise! We had a wonderful report from John Marler, one of the co-chairs of the Winery Initiative. The Williamson County Sun will be printing the initial petition as soon as possible. Thank you for all the help thus far and please keep up support as we will begin the petition signing drive as soon as the SUN certifies the publication and the Board of Elections prints the official ballots. Watch for folks who will be walking around seeking signatures as early as this month. This is a very important initiative and one we believe will greatly enhance the downtown business district. Sunday afternoon, May 16, will be a lively one at the Georgetown Public Library. In the lobby, Jitterbug Vipers will be playing from 2-4 p.m. for the library’s regular third Sunday music event, and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. on the second floor bridge, the Texas Society of Sculptors will be celebrating the opening of their third annual summer show at the library. Both of these events are free and open to the public. Our music events are casual, come and go affairs. Jitterbug Viper’s performance is a gift of the Georgetown Library Foundation. For more information call Rosa Garcia at (512) 930-3623.
See you around downtown~
