Monday's Musings Archives Musings DGA Weekly Musings ~ April 13, 2010
This is your first reminder about the April DGA membership meeting:
Thursday, April 22, 2010
Amante’s Restaurant
8:30-10:00AM
We will have lots of great information to share, including everything you will need to know about the Red Poppy Festival. We hope you will plan to join us.
This Thursday, April 15th, there is a taxpayer “Tea Party” rally planned around the Square. The estimate is that there may be upwards of 2000 people who will be drawn to the event. These folks will most likely eat and check out our shops before and after the event, which we understand is planned for the 6-8PM time slot. Shop owners and restaurants may want to consider staying open late that evening to take advantage of the foot traffic. Listed in the Southwestern University email this week: Ellsworth Peterson, professor emeritus at SU and artistic director of the Georgetown Festival of the Arts, will be the featured speaker at the Wednesday, April 14 “Salon” sponsored by the Williamson Museum. Peterson will speak about Aaron Copeland and the upcoming Festival of the Arts. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in the backroom of Wildfire Restaurant, 812 S. Austin Ave. in Georgetown. Last Saturday was our April Market Days. The weather cooperated and we had a good crowd. Next month, we will be celebrating Mom and have more great musicians planned to showcase at the concerts at the market. This one is shaping up to be our largest market this year. We know mom would enjoy spending time with you exploring the craft booths and shops in downtown on Mother’s Day weekend! There will be a Chamber ribbon cutting for Three Legged Willies this Friday, April 16th at 3PM at 708 S Austin Ave. We have been watching the remodel for some time now and can’t wait to see how it has all come together. This is a much anticipated addition to downtown and we know you will want to stop by and welcome Eric and staff to the Square. A special Arbor Day tree planting on Saturday, April 17 will be dedicated to the men and women of Georgetown who have served their country in the armed forces. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8587 in Georgetown will help plant trees at the event which is sponsored by the City’s Park and Recreation Dept.. Volunteers are still needed for this event! The tree planting is at the VFW Park located at 110 N. College Street starting at 2 p.m. Car-pooling is encouraged since parking is limited at the park. You are advised to wear your old shoes, bring gloves and a shovel. Holes for the trees will be dug by parks staff before the event. Volunteers are needed to place trees in the holes, backfill the root balls with dirt and mulch, and water the trees. If you plan to attend the tree planting, please email Heather Brewer beforehand at hbrewer@georgetowntx.orgor phone (512) 930-6113 as they would like to know the number of participants planning to attend the event. We had a note from Galaxy Cupcakes. Their hours are now Tuesday through Thursday 7AM-6PM, Friday-Saturday 7AM-9PM, and starting April 25, on Sundays 8AM-2PM. Watch for new luncheon items being added to their offerings soon! As always, they have a great selection of breakfast goodies, coffee and their signature cupcakes. (Editorial note: The red velvet ones are quite addictive.) Joe from Landmark Tavern sent around a note that Wednesday, April 21st is Administrative Professionals Day, and he is offering specials Happy Hour prices all evening. They suggest that this would be a great way to treat your “pro” as a great way to show your appreciation. Good reminder for all you bosses out there!
See you around downtown~
