DGA Weekly Musings ~ April 6, 2010

This Saturday is our April Market Days event.  This month is all about a “Kids’ Connection.”  There are several booths featuring information about kids’ camps and activities for the summer.  Our coordinators, Jenny and Stephanie have been hard at work adding fun new ideas to the markets.  Come and enjoy one of the most popular additions: Market Days Concerts!  See the website for details on the artists who will be performing this month: http://www.thegeorgetownsquare.com/category.php?id=7.

Remember that the Paint the Town Red event will also be this Saturday, April 10. You can sign up to have poppies painted on your windows for free by volunteers: contact Karen Frost – 512-930-8545.  You can also call Karen if you want to help paint the poppies!   In addition, there is an artist willing to paint poppies for you for $5 per linear foot – contact: Nancy Brown – 512-869-7790.  The poppy paintings need to be removed right after May 10th

There is a new blog about the Georgetown Winery Initiative!  John Marler sent us this link, and you are encouraged to add your comments about the importance of this effort, perhaps citing how it will help your business or the overall economic climate of downtown.  Check it out at: http://georgetownwineryinitiative.blogspot.com

We had a note from Georgetown Winery:  Dan and Becca continue to win medals!  Look at this impressive list:
  • At the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo International Wine Competition – 2010, they received recognition for a Reserve Class Champion, a Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medals.
  • At the 2010 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition - New York they captured 2 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals.
We know you will want to add your congratulations the next time you stop in.  Way to go!

Novitá Spa unveiled their newly expanded spa last week.  Congratulations to Megan DiMartino and staff.  We wish them all success!  If you have not had a chance to check it out, stop by.  We know they would be pleased to give you a tour.

You may not be aware that DGA worked with the City Planning Department most of last year to come up with signage that will direct visitors to explore all the shopping, dining and other businesses located off the Square.  This has been a request we have heard over and over from our businesses that are not directly on the Square.  The version that was finally approved is ready to be installed on the street side of the four directory signs currently located at all corners of the Square.  Here is an image of the signage that has been approved:

Of course, the arrows will shift direction depending on the corner.  Several businesses off the Square have underwritten much of the cost, and we are only $110 away from getting the signs installed.  If there are any other members who wish to help, we will finally be able to complete this project.  Please call the DGA office, and we will be happy to take your contribution.  Checks can be made out to DGA.

A reminder about the new hours for the DGA office: Tuesday through Friday, 9AM-5PM.  Please plan to visit us during those times, or feel free to leave a phone message, and we will return your call as soon as we return to the office.

See you around downtown~
