Monday's Musings Archives Monday Musings Happy Monday, DGA! This week is our February DGA general membership meeting: Thursday, 2/25 ~ 8:30 – 10:00AM Amante’s Restaurant We will send out the minutes and an agenda later this week. Our spring Citywide Garage Sale is fast approaching. Saturday March 27th is the date, and we have vendor applications and all the information on our website. This is a popular event around downtown that brings out a lot of folks selling and those looking for bargains. We will help spotlight the garage sale that the Williamson County Sheriff’s Dept/Victims Assistance Unit will be holding at Rock and 6th on the same day. They will advertise our sale on Main Street as well, so we get double coverage. The Palace Theatre opened their new production this past weekend ~ Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.” Check out their website for a synopsis of the play and ticket information: www.thegeorgetownpalace.org. Our first Market Days of 2010 is Saturday, 3/13. Remember that many of the vendors will feature “green specials” and will be sporting a green ribbon so visitors can spot them. We are highlighting our downtown restaurants and offering green ribbons to those who wish to offer a “green special” for the day. Also, remember that as a perk of DGA membership, any corporate member in good standing in the historic overlay area with a storefront can reserve a vendor booth for free. This will help give you exposure to the visitors to the market and you can also direct them to your shop. We do need an application by the Wednesday prior to the market in order to reserve your space. We are planning a “green” theme for the March First Friday. We have a committee that is helping us as we plan for these events. We will send out the details after our meeting this week. We had such a success with providing cards that sent our visitors around to your shops. We hope to do much the same sort of event for March. The more fun we can make it, the better word of mouth gets out that this is THE place to be on First Fridays. Have you seen the activity around the old saddlery building next to The Escape on Main Street? There is a great new shop opening in April called “Poppy Tots.” Paul & Marikka Crown who own Book Pride are bringing a new concept to the Square. Their shop will offer the resale of gently used children’s clothing using much the same concept as their bookstore. And Marikka is excited about exploring a concept she calls “designer repurposed clothing.” More on that as it develops! This will be a great new addition to our mix of shops. A final reminder: The Chamber of Commerce is hosting their first annual Bridal Showcase on February 27 from noon-5PM at the Chamber meeting room. The event is free to attendees, and has everything for the bride and her wedding plans. Be sure to pass along this information to all the brides you know: http://www.GeorgetownChamber.org/BridalShow.asp See you around downtown~ Trisha Tallman Downtown Georgetown Association |
