Greetings, DGA!

Last Friday was the Swirl event on the Square.  It was a sold out event, and even with the cold, everyone seemed to have a great time!  Congratulations to the Main Street board for a job well done.  This is just one more event that brought a lot of traffic downtown.  DGA is spearheading efforts to look at more ways to keep Georgetown in the front of mind the place where there is always something happening!  We hope to be able to report on that at our next meeting.

Speaking of that, here is you first reminder that our February meeting will be:

  • Thursday, February 25 ~ 8:30 - 10:00 AM
  • Amante's Restaurant

A reminder that Palace Theatre has their new production opening on 2/19 ~ Stephen Sondheim’s “A Little Night Music.”  Check out their website for a synopsis of the play and ticket information: www.thegeorgetownpalace.org.  This should be a fun, lighthearted production, and you will want to make sure to make reservations early.  They will also be holding auditions for their production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoata delightful musical parable by Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber and directed by Mary Ellen Butler.  Production dates are  May 7 – June 6, 2010.  Check the Palace website: www.thegeorgetownpalace.org for full information on the audition process.

We had a note from Georgetown Winery: They are having a Mardi Gras costume party on Feb. 20th.  Check out the information on their website: www.georgetownwinery.com.  Dust off your best costume, mask and mark your calendar.  Dan and Becca sure know how to throw a party!

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting their first annual Bridal Showcase on February 27 from noon-5PM at the Chamber meeting room.  The event is free to attendees, and has everything for the bride and her wedding plans.  Be sure to pass along this information to all the brides you know:  http://www.GeorgetownChamber.org/BridalShow.asp

We are gearing up for the launch of our Market Days on 3/13.  This year, the March market is “going green.”  Many of our vendors will feature “green specials” and will be sporting a green ribbon so visitors can spot them.  We are highlighting our downtown restaurants and offering green ribbons to those who wish to offer a “green special” for the day.  Just let us know and we will give you a ribbon to put at the entrance to your restaurant.

There were several notes of interest from SouthwesternUniversity this week.  We have a treasure trove of cultural events and all manner of entertainment here in our community on the campus of Southwestern.  Check out their website for more information these and other events:  http://www.southwestern.edu/calendar/sucalendar/main.php:

On a personal note, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Marc Truxillo of Affordable Insulation and Karin Truxillo of Urban Homes & Land on the passing of Nicole, Marc’s daughter and Karin’s niece this past Thursday.  The loss of a family member is hard, but doubly so when it is such a young life.  Our hearts are with you, Marc and Karin.

See you around downtown~
